According to a series of announcements by Uglebjerg herself and the company, Mette Uglebjerg, Alimentation Couche-Tard's (hereinafter "Couche-Tard") global senior vice president of food and marketing, will step down on May 1 to become CEO of European health and beauty brand Matas Group.

As one of the core members of Couche-Tard's global executive team, Uglebjerg has led the convenience store giant's food service projects and marketing efforts across its global convenience store network since the end of 2024. Before assuming her current role, she led the operations of Couche-Tard's Circle K business in Europe for two years; prior to that, she served as managing director and CEO of the company's Danish business unit for four years. Uglebjerg joined the company in June 2012, shortly after Couche-Tard completed its acquisition of Statoil Fuel & Retail.

Uglebjerg took over the global food and marketing division shortly after the company announced the acquisition of GetGo Café + Market, the convenience store business of supermarket chain Giant Eagle. Over the past two years, Couche-Tard has continuously attempted to integrate GetGo's various food supply solutions and operational strategies into its own system. Meanwhile, Couche-Tard's own "Fresh Food, Fast" program has expanded to 6,000 convenience stores globally.

Her departure will leave a gap at the top of Couche-Tard's global leadership team, and it is currently unclear who will succeed her in her responsibilities. As of press time, a Couche-Tard spokesperson had not responded to requests for comment.

Uglebjerg said in the announcement: "I look forward to dedicating my full focus and energy in the coming months to continue delivering strong results together with my excellent colleagues—an organization I truly enjoy being part of. When my chapter at Circle K comes to a close, there will be time for a proper farewell."

Uglebjerg will become the second current Couche-Tard executive to leave in May. Earlier, Niall Anderton, senior vice president of strategy and transformation, had announced he would leave the same month to become CEO of Irish food retailer and wholesaler Musgrave Group.
